Lisa Schulte-Moore Presented with CSSP’s 2022 Citation for Leadership and Achievement

Lisa Schulte-Moore, Iowa State University, presented with CSSP’s 2022 Citation for Leadership and Achievement for improving natural resource management and engaging the public to better value the science that benefits our environment.

The CSSP Citation for Leadership & Achievement honors those who merit special recognition for outstanding leadership and achievements in the last year in support of scientific research

Dr. Lisa Schulte-Moore is being honored for her work in designing agricultural systems that reduce runoff and increase biodiversity. The STRIPES program uses interplantings of native prairie vegetation with crops to reduce agricultural runoff, increase native biodiversity, and increase crop productivity in marginal farmlands. Working to return more of the value from agricultural supply chains to rural community and the land, Dr. Schulte-Moore develops relationships and institutional capacity so diverse groups can more effectively work together.

In addition to traditional academic publications and field demonstrations, Dr. Schulte-Moore is a lead developer of People in Ecosystems/Watershed Integration (PEWI), a simple web-based visualization tool that allows farmers to understand the benefits of strips and other conservation practices on their farms. This tool addresses the importance of understanding human impacts on the environment and the need to improve the management of natural resources development. This fantastic tool engages the public to better value the science that benefits our environment.

CSSP celebrates Dr. Schulte-Moore for her commitment to finding solutions to tough problems at the intersection of agriculture and our environment.
